One night, I was driving home from the hospital after an especially hard day visiting Hannah. I was feeling so exhausted, sad, scared, and alone when I heard this song on the radio for the first time. I was so touched, and felt as if this song was written and playing just for me at that exact moment! It reminded me of how my Heavenly Father is so mindful of me and my trials and how much he loves me! I am so grateful for all He has blessed me with. This beautiful world full of miracles is a testimony of Him; truly, "His fingerprints are everywhere!"
(You can hear it if you scroll through our music player on this page)
I still tear up every time I hear this song:
I Saw God Today by George Strait
Just walked down the street to the coffee shop
Had to take a break
I'd been by her side for 18 hours straight
Saw a flower growing in the middle of a sidewalk
Pushing up through the concrete
Like it was planted right there for me to see
The flashing lights, the honking horns
All seemed to fade away
In the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today.
Chorus:
I've been to church,
I've read the book
I know He's here but I don't look
Near as often as I should (Yeah I know I should)
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today.
Saw a couple walking by
They were holding hands
Man she had that glow
Yeah I couldn't help but notice she was starting to show
Stood there for a minute taking in the sky
Lost in that sunset
A splash of amber melted into shades of red.
Chorus
Got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She's sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist, wearing tiny pink socks
She's got my nose, she's got her mamas eyes
My brand new baby girl
She's a miracle
I saw God today

It's been so long since Elle was in NICU, that I have almost forgotten how hard it was... almost. Thanks for this post- It reminded me of that time. Although I NEVER want to go through it again, it reminded me of the same feeling of being loved.
I've heard the song but never really listened to the lyrics. How sweet! I got all teary eyed listening to the song with your post. It was beautiful. What a great reminder for you at the perfect time.
Summer you have such a good attitude. That was such a sweet post! I am so glad that she is doing better!
I've heard the song only once, and I think I only noticed the 2nd verse, where he saw the pregnant woman. I smiled to myself and went back to my own thoughts at the time, but thanks for sharing the song and what it meant to you! Mostly, I'm just glad that both you and Hannah are doing well now.
I also forgot to say that that's a beautiful picture of Hannah you have up in this post.
I finally got myself linked up to your blog! It was good to get caught up with your family. I had no idea that your baby girl was in the hospital! I'm SO glad that she's home and doing well now. You are a great mom and have a beautiful family. I look forward to keeping in touch through the blogging world : )
That song gets me every time too. She is a miracle. How grateful I am for the medical field and those that pursue it to help our sweet angels. I am so glad she is home and doing well. She is beautiful. Reading through your blog about your late nights and long days and having your mom there choked me up, I have done it twice now and know how important moms are. Your mom rocks. I know your a great mom too. Like you said your mom has been a great example and you ARE following great footprints. What would we do without our moms. I really don't know what I would do. She has saved me to many times.
How is having 3 kids for you? We have our 3rd with us now too. I think my 4 1/2 yr. old is harder than my 2 yr old or my newborn. Just curious to see what you think so far.
Hey Summer, the post from Ryan is actually from Brandi. I don't know if you remember me. We are good friends with Jenny and Tyson. We lived right next door in Logan. Just thought I would let you know that post is from me. I tried to fix it but it didn't work so I deleted it. That is what was deleted.
Brandi
Summer what a sweet post, and what a neat story to tell little Hannah when she grows up. So glad she is home and well!
Dear Summer, Ijust read your blog and I am so teary that I can barely see to type. I am so blessed to have you as a daughter-in-law and mother to my grandchildren. You are so insightful and close to Heavenly Father. I am so greatful to Him for blessing and watching over our little angel Hannah. We are both so proud of you and David and all the good things you are doing in your lives.
